In the worst week of news for Biden’s struggling presidency, a story had unexpectedly popped up to the surface that had millions of Americans enthralled. It fueled breathless media coverage that created a massive smokescreen for the Biden administration.
The curious story enveloped and smothered ugly political developments like Adam Schiff’s censure, Joe Biden’s impeachment vote passing the floor, and IRS whistleblower testimony that implicated both Joe and Hunter Biden in a shakedown scheme with a Chinese business tycoon.
Even more damning, the whistleblower testified under oath about the Department of Justice’s efforts to cover up Biden crimes, obstruct justice, and hide evidence from investigators. This should be presidency-ending developments. It should also mean years behind bars for the president’s son at a minimum.
During a news cycle that would have led to relentless coverage of brewing scandals under any Republican president, the coverage became flooded with the ill-fated tale of the Titan submersible. The tiny makeshift craft had taken five wealthy individuals deep below the Atlantic ocean to sight-see the wreckage of the famously sunk Titanic.
Alas, something went terribly, horribly wrong, and thus, the American people were regaled with days of Titan coverage that saturated digital media and flooded cable news.
But on Thursday, the Wall Street Journal dropped a provocative story that confounded the non-stop coverage of the Titan rescue from Sunday until Thursday. Despite the news media’s obsessive coverage of the seemingly desperate rescue attempt, the submersible likely had already imploded… on Sunday.
“The Navy began listening for the Titan almost as soon as the sub lost communications, according to a U.S. defense official. Shortly after the submersible’s disappearance Sunday, the U.S. system detected what it suspected was the sound of an implosion… and reported its findings to the Coast Guard commander on site,” U.S. defense officials told the Journal.
“The U.S. Navy conducted an analysis of acoustic data and detected an anomaly consistent with an implosion or explosion in the general vicinity of where the Titan submersible was operating when communications were lost,” a senior U.S. Navy official said in a statement. “While not definitive, this information was immediately shared with the Incident Commander to assist with the ongoing search and rescue mission.”
The disturbing report that the Titan was believed to have imploded days prior to the media blitz of coverage was the ultimate “red pill” for many Americans. So, who was to blame?
The U.S. government for withholding the critical information?
Yet the Titan story gets even more bizarre. In a twist, it appears that the U.S. rescue team had rebuffed British offers of assistance in the purported manhunt.
The US government reportedly prevented a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) from joining the rescue mission to recover the stranded submersible Titan in the Atlantic, according to The Telegraph.
A team from Magellan Limited, experts in deepwater operations, had been ready to depart from an airport in the Channel Islands since Monday evening, but was turned away.
Magellan, based in Guernsey, gained recognition for producing the first comprehensive digital scan of the Titanic wreck last year, a project that involved capturing 700,000 images using two submarines.
Bretton Hunchak, former president of RMS Titanic, Inc., which collaborated with Magellan, stated that the company possesses crucial equipment and expertise that could assist in locating OceanGate’s missing Titan submersible, which was on a dive to explore the wreck of the luxury passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in April 1912.
Although Magellan received apparent clearance from the UK Ministry of Defence to leave UK airspace, it is alleged that the US government has not yet authorized their request to join the rescue operation taking place 435 miles south of St. John’s, Newfoundland.
The Biden administration better start explaining why it appears to have withheld critical information about the Titan from the American people during a week that should have been focused on the president’s alleged scandals.
